Flashback – POTUS Trump was treated with the REGN-COV2 polyclonal antibody cocktail including IgG1 antibodies - granted EUA back in 2020 – is it still in use? (Back down the IgG1+ IgG3 rabbit hole!)

Remember these headlines from 5 October 2020?

Trump released from Walter Reed hospital after receiving COVID-19 treatment (nypost.com)

“President Trump walked out of Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and returned to the White House on Monday, following three days of treatment for the coronavirus.”

“Trump received experimental “polyclonal antibodies” and oxygen at the White House on Friday. At the hospital, he received doses of the antiviral drug remdesivir and the steroid dexamethasone.”

“White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnaney tweeted out a memo from Trump's physician that revealed he was injected with "a single 8 gram dose of Regeneron's polyclonal antibody cocktail." He was also being treated with zinc, vitamin D, melatonin, and a daily aspirin. Although the antibody cocktail was administered as "a precautionary measure," it's still an experimental treatment.”

Maybe the zinc, Vitamin D, melatonin and aspiring were the charm and the polyclonal antibodies were coincidental, but maybe it was also the presence of IgG1 antibodies.

POTUS Trump promised all Americans would have access to the same treatment protocols that saw his 3 day recovery from infection. (He was not given HCQ).

Here is the press announcement by the maker of the polyclonal antibodies, Regeneron from 29 September 2020.

Regeneron's REGN-COV2 Antibody Cocktail Reduced Viral Levels and Improved Symptoms in Non-Hospitalized COVID-19 Patients | Regeneron Pharmaceuticals Inc.

“The ongoing, randomized, double-blind trial measures the effect of adding REGN-COV2 to usual standard-of-care, compared to adding placebo to standard-of-care.

This trial is part of a larger program that also includes studies of REGN-COV2 for the treatment of hospitalized patients, and for prevention of infection in people who have been exposed to COVID-19 patients.”

Here is the 24 January 2022 (first published on 8 August 2021?) FDA EUA announcement for (two MONOCLONAL = POLYCLONAL? Why not BICLONAL?) antibody treatments - that has an embedded link to an EUA letter dated 21 November 2020:

“FDA authorizes REGEN-COV monoclonal antibody therapy for post-exposure prophylaxis (prevention) for COVID-19

Prophylaxis with REGEN-COV is not a substitute for vaccination against COVID-19.”

The embedded link to the letter says this:

“On November 21, 2020, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) for emergency use of REGEN-COV (casirivimab and imdevimab, administered together)3 for the treatment of mild to moderate COVID-19 in adults and pediatric patients (12 years of age and older weighing at least 40 kg) with positive results of direct SARS[1]CoV-2 viral testing, and who are at high risk for progressing to severe COVID-19 and/or hospitalization.

Casirivimab and imdevimab are recombinant human IgG1 monoclonal antibodies that target the receptor binding domain of the spike protein of SARS-CoV-2. They are investigational drugs and are not approved for any indication.”

Note the IgG1 monoclonal antibodies reference – not to IgG3, but still – useful IgG1 antibodies. In other words, IgG1 was known to be useful all the way back at least 6 months before EUA in November 2020 – at the START of clinical trials.

Enquiring minds want to know whether IgG3 was tested along with IgG1 and rejected as not influential!
