Having succeeded in making thousands of residents frustrated and miserable since May 2022, the Cult of Moloch members of the UK's east Oxford road “authority” make temporary car banning permanent
From here:
Oxford is not (yet) a 15-minute city, but “Low Traffic Neighbourhoods (LTNs) in East Oxford are being made permanent, despite a huge backlash from protesters. The decision was made by Oxford Council yesterday to extend the controlling traffic measure scheme, which has been in trial since May 2022.”
The scheme does have support of many (probably non-resident) Cult members who think orange is a good colour to represent their Cult.
Looks like there will be a boom in taxis, rubbish trucks, motorised street sweepers, mail vans and fire engines plus of course the wholly justifiable boom in vandalism which is a preferred tactic of Cult members. Well, unless the Cult bans all competition or new licenses.
No mention of the loss in revenue for local filling stations or even the road taxes, VAT and fuel taxes imposed by central government. Should the scheme succeed in getting people to get rid of those nasty cars.
“Taxis, emergency services, bin lorries and post vans will now be allowed through.”
No mention of buses, or those motorised or pedal scooters. Or the mini vans used for outings for clubs and pensioners. No mention of EV exemptions either, so there is that. I wonder if motorised electric bicycles are allowed.
As it is, it is “Welcome to the Borg, you have been assimilated, resistance is futile”.
One size fits all, just like the mandated injections, regardless of existing health conditions, age or preference for NOT being raped by big government with experimental injections of badly made lethal toxins.
I guess the owners of cars within the LTN will see reductions in insurance rates but will probably be forced to sell.
Here’s a comment from a Cult member who thinks he is a highway chief from the meeting that made the road bans permanent.
One example of Cult logic behind this scheme was to force children to walk and cycle to school. Just in time for winter! Maybe there will be no rain, wind, hail, sleet, fog or snow – “global boiling” is happening after all. The little mites can trot to school in open necked shirts, shorts and flip flops. No mention of the impact on the elderly or disabled.
And there was me thinking that roads are there to enable transport and make things cleaner (not muddy) easier and convenient – I guess the Romans made a mistake when they invented roads that got busy, as did the Germans with their autobahns. Who knew that it was such a bad idea for thousands of years?
I wonder how much the scheme has cost so far in administration, compliance and materials costs so far. Perhaps just a few tens of pounds a year on top of the annual rates bill for every resident in not only east Oxford, but also north, south and west Oxford?
“Highways chief Andrew Grant said that the schemes which limit traffic provide better travel alternatives for Oxford residents. He said: “We have all got too used to the idea that road space is something we can help ourselves to - as much of it as we would like, whenever we like.”
“That it is somehow free, that we can have it whenever we want, like breathing the air. It is not. It is a finite resource and it is full.”
Okay, limiting choice = better travel alternatives. Cult logic. Why not simply say “cars are the problem, banning cars is our solution”? And now the roads are empty, brilliant. Reminds of the bicycle schemes in Chicago, London and other places – create bicycle lanes that are never used and funnel traffic into fewer lanes when there are almost zero people using the bicycle lanes.
“.. Grant said that now that the area had gotten used to LTNs, there was no going back. He said: “It is about giving people options and choices, and the ambition for everybody to get in their own car has run its course because the roads are full…”
This mirrors more of the logic that parallels “now people have gotten used to Gulags there is no going back”.
See if you can spot the logic flaw in this statement by the shiny bottomed bureaucrat ““Our job as a highways authority is to give people alternatives which are better for Oxford as a city and the individuals who are making those choices.” Does he mean the individuals like him, or the hundreds of protestors outside?
“Hundreds of protesters gathered outside County Hall, whilst some attended the meeting inside. The meeting lasted for over three hours, and over 30 people were registered to speak.”
One of those permitted to speak, had this to say “Pugh said that he had seen a “huge decline in business” in the impacted area. Pugh slammed the council, saying: “You haven't listened, you haven't engaged… basically this is a misconduct in public office.”
I suspect that most of the council that appointed the road traffic “authority” Cult member will be out on their ear in elections.
“Oxford City Council elects its councillors by halves. This means we have elections every other year. We last held ours in May 2022 and the next set is due in May 2024. One of the two seats in each of our 24 wards will be up for election that year.”
What does a LTN actually look like?
Those are wooden containers and will be replaced with “At the meeting, it was announced that the wooden bollards signalling entrance into the LTNs will be replaced with Automatic Number Plate Recognition cameras.”
So physical barriers and cameras – cue the black spray paint or the more direct approach taken by the Blade Runners of London!
I am surprised there has not been the UK equivalent of riots following the killing of George Floyd. Names and addresses are publicly available. Of course, that is all part of the plan of the Cult. Push people towards violence when the Cult goes to far. Then the Cult can call the violent misogynists, climate change deniers, racists, fascists and so on and so forth – which is course simple projection of the ugly traits of Cult members.
All the measures like Ultra Low Emission Zones, Congestion Charges and Low Traffic Neighbourhoods are coming to your city soon.
Just think if they put as much effort into developing a device that captured the exhaust cycle of a combustion engine, there would be no pollution from car exhausts. Improving local public transport, rather than banning it.
Getting rid of all the cars of the government, county and city bureaucrats would probably solve most of the traffic problem too! I wonder what an Uber type system for public transport might look like with optimised pickups and drops offs with free travel and showing wait times would look like.
I bet it would be cheaper than the costs of the bureaucracy (salary, health care and pensions) all the costs of the bins and their maintenance, plus all the camera technology (about to have lenses spray painted black) and so on.
Onwards!
