Meet the advisory panel on C19 variants who have just declared that the sub-variant JN1 of the variant BA.2.86 is now a “variant of interest”

“Executive Summary

Previously, JN.1 was tracked as part of BA.2.86, the parent lineage that is classified as a variant of interest (VOI). However, in recent weeks, JN.1 continues to be reported in multiple countries, and its prevalence has been rapidly increasing globally and now represents the vast majority of BA.2.86 descendent lineages reported to GISAID.

Due to its rapidly increasing spread, WHO is classifying JN.1 as a separate variant of  interest (VOI) from the parent lineage BA.2.86”

Anurag Agrawal is Dean of Ashoka University. After completing graduate medical education at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Delhi (1994), he further trained in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Disease and Critical Care at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, USA (2003), followed by a PhD in Physiology from Delhi University.

You may recognise one or two of the “members” – Drosten for example of “I can calibrate a RT-PCR test that will say 30% of people have a virus – any virus ,doesn’t matter which”.

The US NIAID has a “member” – Elodie Ghedin, amongst 4 from the USA,. Other countries with “members”  include Qatar, 2 x UK, Germany, South Africa, Australia x 2, China, Senegal, Nigeria, France, Brazil, Tunis and “Africa”.

So there are 8 from US, UK and Oz.
