Amongst the Lancet findings, was this singularly unimpressive statement:

“Between Dec 20, 2021, and Feb 28, 2022, 59 510 (0·4%) of the primary vaccine group and 26 100 (0·2%) of those who received their booster had severe COVID-19 outcomes. The risk of severe COVID-19 outcomes reduced after receiving the booster (rate change: 8·8 events per 1000 person-years to 7·6 events per 1000 person-years).”

A reduction of 1.2 events per 1,000 person-years? So 1,200 events per million person years? The observation is based on ONE YEAR TWO MONTHS between December 8th, 2020 (date of first UK injection) and February 28th 20222 - 8 months ago - and expressed with a confidence interval (CI) of 95%.

that CI covers distributions around the mean between 2.5% of outcomes and 97.5% of outcomes.

We have known since the onset of the pandemic that deaths occur in a BETA distribution (skewed to the left) and not a NORMAL distribution. So, I would question the use of the statistical measures.

I will leave further debate to those better qualified than I, but in investment terms, it seems that Value at Risk techniques would be better applied by being translated to Lives at Risk at a limit set by society at large. “How many deaths can we expect (tolerate = eugenics!) amongst each demographic of for example, age, health, sex and income cohort”

“Person-years” is a statistic for expressing incidence rates—it is the summing of the results of events divided by time. There is only one year two months of data with which to make this assumption and does not reflect any rising severity of adverse, ever more severe, outcomes that are likely.
