“(Headline USA) More than 700,000 illegal immigrants living in California will gain access to “free” health care on Monday. It will eventually cost the state about $3.1 billion per year.
Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom and lawmakers agreed in 2022 to provide health care access to all low-income adults regardless of their immigration status through the state’s Medicaid program, known as Medi-Cal.
California is the most populous state to guarantee such coverage, though Oregon began doing so in July.”
Regular readers will know that it is my view that illegal immigrants are criminals that should be immediately deported back to their home countries. The waiting list to hear asylum claims already extends many years, even up to a decade for some.
I view illegal immigrants in the same way I would view someone breaking into my house, taking over a room, eating my food and using all the facilities in the house – ahead of my own family – and then extorting more pocket money than my family has left after living expenses.
Anyway, the number of 700,000 illegal immigrants leaps off the page, so I thought I would check it out – given how “mathematically challenged”, illiterate, ludicrously extreme (“reparations for every non-whites!”) and irrecoverably stupid the California Democratic Party is and how it thinks that “emptying prisons = progress to a lower incarceration rate” and “decriminalising crimes worth less than a thousands bucks = lowering the crime rate”.

AH hah. Obamacare extends to those earning less than 150% of the poverty line – so, again for 2019:
42% qualified for free Obamacare in 2019 = 1,160,000 people. 50% higher than the 700,000 estimate.

I wonder how many illegal immigrants have crossed into California since 2019.

A drop of 150,000 between 2017 and 2021.
I can’t find numbers for California for 2022, but assuming that California takes around 40% of illegals, from here:
That works out at around 1.1 million during that record year.

Half a million in the year to September 2023.
So, a reduction of 150,000 in 2021 is likely to be swamped by an extra million over the next two years. There are likely to be 2 million illegal immigrants at or below the poverty line.
Which means that the costs of providing health care to illegal immigrants RATHER THAN BETTER HEALTH CARE TO CAIFORNIANS – is going to be triple the 3 billion budgeted.
How’s that 68 billion fiscal deficit looking for next year?

Thank you for this article, Mr. Halligan; looks like you did quite a bit of research on the numbers with this one and as a FORMER California resident, I appreciate that. I was born in Calif in early 1950s and lived there most of my life; illegals were one reason I left there almost 3 yrs. ago. I remember very clearly Governor Gruesome saying that there were 11 million illegals living in CA. This was about 2 to 3 yrs ago. Truth is they have been coming in to CA since mid-60s, I remember clearly this was a problem when I was young and was in the news. I'm willing to bet there are more than 11 mil illegals in CA at this point, especially since I've never known Gruesome to tell the truth about anything. Used to be in CA that a retired person Social Security could apply to have govt. pay for half of their rent; that hasn't been in existence for a very long time there. So where did that $ go to? Hmmm...I read on U.S. Debt Clock page (https://usdebtclock.org/) that 1/4 of population of U.S. is on Medicaid. I'm on Social Security, dont receipt all that much $ but don't qualify for Medicaid. I doubt that 1/4 of Americans make less $ than I do so who are these people? Hmmm again. I've also read that illegals receive $2,200/month free money, free housing, free health care, free dental care and food stamps. Where is that $ coming from, I wonder - oh wait....
