The virtue signalling rubber meets the road - NY City Mayor requests plans for budget cuts of 5% in three stages for the next few years to pay for illegal immigration

Oh dear. Even after giving up on being a “sanctuary city” the folly of virtue signalling for political purposes will now be borne by New York City’s 8.8 million people.

“New York City Mayor Eric Adams on Saturday announced potential budget cuts of at least five percent across all city agencies, amid an illegal immigration crisis in the Big Apple. His office also announced it’s taking other efforts to reduce costs.”

Taxes/revenues of 106 billion dollars (dropping by 4 billion next year) and spending of 110 billion dollars(dropping by 5.5 billion dollars next year.

A 15% cut in the whole budget _ not that this is happening, just cuts in “services” represents a cut in 16.5 billion dollars.

How many illegal immigrants are there that require cuts to city services of one dollar in 6?

Well, in early August 2023 it was estimated that there were around 90,000 since last Spring = which presumably means since last April 2022?

“Specifically, his administration is “asking all of our agencies to submit a plan to reduce their city-funded spending in each year of our financial plan by five percent for our upcoming November budget update; by another five percent in January’s preliminary budget; and by a final five percent in April’s executive budget,” Mr. Adams said in a video address to New Yorkers on Saturday.”

5% for November budget, 5% in the January budget, and 5% in April? Cumulative 15%, but does this mean 5% cuts in 2023 to be maintained at those reduced levels for 2024 and 2025? Clear as mud!

“About 10,000 illegal immigrants seeking asylum are “still arriving each month,” which puts the estimated costs for taxpayers at “$12 billion over three fiscal years,” his office stated.”

Hmm. 100,000 already with 10,000 arriving per month – cost estimated at 4 billion a year whereas 5% of total spending = 5.5 billion a year. Close enough given the corruption around the City’s spending on housing illegal immigrants in seedy motels owned by companies like Pakistan International Airlines.

“New York City has taken in about 112,000 illegal immigrants since spring 2022 with nearly 60,000 temporarily living in government shelters.

“While our compassion is limitless, our resources are not,” Mr. Adams told New Yorkers.”

Yeah, really. Who would have thought that “a puppy is not just for Christmas”?

Let’s see how New Yorkers feel about losing 5% of services. Hey I wonder if this means budget cuts for the communist Southern District Court of New York eagerly spending millions of bucks chasing down Trump et al?
