I know someone who used to work for the IG in a three letter agency. It can take them years to investigate these things which includes interviewing all involved. Then they write their reports and submit it to leadership. By that time, many have moved on from their jobs, there are people who will not fix or update the process or issue that was found, and/or nothing is done about any of it. That person left the IG for lack of accountability for these agencies.
That isn't how it works from my experience and I was DoD for 34+ years. Each agency has IG and a lot of their reports are classified. They are not shared from agency to agency as a lot of it is internal issues that are never fixed. They have also changed what they will investigate and often times push the complaints to other areas of the agencies and absolutely nothing is done.
Thanks for that. I bow to your experience. You would think that IG's would have signed some sort of official secrets act and would, by necessity, require clearance for classified information, even secret.
I wonder if the Senior Service gets to review all the IG reports..
I'm not saying nothing gets fixed, but a majority doesn't or becomes overcome by other events and the IG are scrambling to investigate something else. The government is huge. Think of it this way - when someone says "the Pentagon needs to do something!" they don't seem to understand that the Pentagon has a multitude of agencies within it, and even the building itself has an agency that manages its tenants and the building itself - including parking permits, etc. Every agency has all of its own offices, policies, regulations, etc., and they do not necessarily have anything to do with each other. Maybe the DNI sees all of the reports but who knows if they do or even does anything about the issues taking place. It is so huge it is impossible to truly manage or know what is going on.
Thanks for all these reminders. We will not be forgetting anytime soon what this government has done for so long. They have entirely earned the ire the American people have been saving for a rainy day. The naked emperors of the Chinese Balloons have outdone themselves.
Obfuscation(s)? The perfect cover for the massive money shuffeling/misappropriation/laundering.

You would think there would be regular meetings amongst the IG's where they would compare notes and such.
In the case of budgets and such, DoD follows PPBES processes. I cannot speak to some of the other agencies and how things work.
