H/t Emily “The RESTRICT Act, introduced by senators from both major parties will give the executive branch the power to criminalize the use of social media platforms it opposes, violating the First Amendment in several ways.” Passing of the Restrict Act would kill discussion of any topic on any platform that was outside the “Overton Window” of political dogma and propaganda.
A lot of arguments over the rights of free speech often frame it as 1. Should people have free speech or not? 2. Free speech has consequences or 3. What are the acceptable limits of free speech? Never have I read anyone point out that when free speech is curtailed, what is actually happening is that somebody else is actually stealing your voice all for themselves. So for me, it's not so much a free speech argument but straight up theft. Fact checkers in the near future will have powers to hoard millions of voices all for their own use. Now doesn't framing it like that make you just a little bit mad?
I agree and pray we have Patriots on our side working on alternative methods.
I like the concrete idea.
For me I’ve always believed where there is a Will there is a way! We are not going to buckle as easily as they think, this may be the kick in the pants we need to build our own Internet, economy etc. and send the gubment packing.
We are definitely living in interesting times, lol 😂.
The evil being unleashed today is mind blowing, yet not unexpected. Fortunately, we have some great minds out there and we will find a way around this should it pass.
In the meantime I’m looking into Carrier Pigeons. 😎
One that is not controlled or operated by the current mega-players.
How hard could it be? Throw up a few satellites to start over single countries/cities or use ground transmissions of signals via concrete! Who knows! We do know that sooner or later technology displaces all prior technologies that were thought to be embedded.
This is where ‚wonder boy‘ Musk comes into play. When he took over Twitter he already tweeted „and authenticate all real humans.“ To me that sounds like an introduction of some sort of Digital ID: https://twitter.com/elonmusk/status/1517215736606957573
Every time I log on to internet banking, pay my utility bills on line, government tax websites, or get groceries home delivered etc, I am conscious that I am using multiple digital ID's.
I am not dead set against them for this reason. I sometimes wonder whether a biometric device would be useful - especially for those with fading eyesight like me. There are limits of course.
Ah well, the would-be traitors, criminals and budding tyrants are now standing openly in plain site.
They have reached peak delusional hubris.
I am reminded of how pride cometh before the fall.
It's happening here, too....Bill C11.... just passed..... https://tnc.news/2023/04/28/alshow-jt-internet/
Ugh. Some people have no sense of liberty and the pursuit of happiness whatsoever.
I posted this as an article - thanks for the heads up!
Thank you for your words, wisdom and liberty!! :)
You are welcome. There are far more good than bad people. Somehow the conversion rate has to be reversed!
This is the quote of the day.....thanks for the reminder....

If one side of the discussion is shut down, both should be. Abolish all or nothing.
Same with referendum - ability to vote against so a threshold of say 100,000 must include those opposed to off set those advocating.
When the finish killing off the first amendment they are going to go for it all with the second amendment and that's where the real fight will be.
