If people were prevented from running for office or taking a job in a political institution because they had some connection to another politician there would not be anyone available to run for office or be hired. Just look at the Trump connections with his family that he appointed to top political positions!

I hate to break it to you, but a president can only pardon convictions on the federal level. He can't pardon state convictions.
Ah, fair call. Doesn't matter if the case is appealed all the way to SCOTUS either.
