China tries to dump EV’s into Europe, EU starts an investigation – China retaliates by extending tariffs levied on potato starch imports
Remember this?
Which had these photos?
Well, it turns out we can add a similar photo:
Why are they all white!!! Maybe they have a better and cheaper painters in the EU? Are they all re-exported Tesla’s?
Here’s a couple of articles from the South China Morning Press:
It seems that the Chinese government has been heavily subsidising the manufacture of EV’s that has not only flooded the domestic Chinese market, but has spilled over into dumping onto the EU markets, much to the chagrin of particularly French EV makers, giving rise to these headlines:.
“Brussels will look into China’s alleged subsidising of EVs, says European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen during annual policy speech - It comes amid fears in Europe that Beijing’s industrial policy is undermining efforts to compete in innovative industries”
“China will extend anti-subsidy duties on potato starch imports from the European Union for the next five years from Saturday - Earlier on Thursday, Beijing had hit back at the European Union over its planned anti-subsidy probe into the rapid rise of its electric vehicle exports”
“European carmakers, including Volkswagen, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and PSA Peugeot Citroen, long enjoyed a large market share in China through their local partners. Then came the rapid rise of electric vehicle makers Tesla and Chinese brands BYD, Xpeng, Nio and Li Auto.”
“China has leapfrogged Japan as the world’s largest car exporter, and European automotive companies are increasingly concerned about their ability to compete with what they see as heavily subsidised Chinese competitors.”
“The Post’s calculations based on Chinese customs data showed that in the first seven months of 2023, Chinese electric vehicle shipments to the EU soared to US$7.9 billion, an increase of 113 per cent from a year earlier, of 379 per cent from 2021, 3,205 per cent from 2020 and 78,900 per cent from 2019.”
The SCMP could have just said sales have grown from zero to almost 8 billion dollars, but maybe it makes a difference to someone!
I am guessing that the EU subsidy on potato starch is around 50% on sales to China of half of a total of 233 million bucks.

China subsidies on EV’s? Who knows, the Chinese communists have no use for money in the western sense. It’s all about volume and dominance. Every 10% of the 8 billion on sales of EV’s to the EU is worth 800 million bucks to the EV exporters from China, whether that favours Tesla or a Chinese car maker. I suspect sales of Chinese EV’s in the EU is pretty well zero.
Still, China does have those rare earth minerals – and the EU does have those rare earth potatoes.
Don’t forget the risks of lithium-ion batteries in EV’s!

With the obvious human rights, abuses, espionage and massive mind control. You would think that other countries would boycott Chinese goods altogether! Time to put Japan in first place for sales of EV cars, and leave China in the dust bin. The only way to clean their clocks and get them out of your country is to deny them buying rights in your country and stop buying their stuff. End of story.
