Congratulations, Mr. Halligan - and in 105 countries you're being read!! Wow, that's quite an accomplishment. I doubt CNN is seen in 105 countries, ha! ha!

btw, your surname reminds me of when I went to Catholic school as a kid back in the 60s - Halligan, being Irish surname, was a popular name in that school as were several other similar names such as Hannigan. The nuns must have been taught how to say a student's last name in a special, stern way. They would start off with "Mr. Hannigan, I would advise you to do your homework tonight." We had a kid named Michael Hannigan in 6th grade who was the prerequisite Class Clown. One day Sister Camilla asked us to write a brief paper on what New Year's meant to us - "and Mr. Hannigan, that doesn't mean drawing a picture of a martini with an olive in it!" It's a good memory and always makes me smile when I think of it. Sister Camilla was my favorite teacher who has now sadly, passed away but her memory still lingers, in good ways. And that's what comes to mind whenever I see a new article with your name on it. Thanks for the great articles you post and for the happy memories!! ❤️❤️❤️

The Halligan name is part of the diaspora! I lived i New Zealand for a while, there quite a few there too! My father paid for one of those "ancestor" traces - true or mot, lineage was traced back to a lector called Halligan in the king of Ireland's court all the way back to 1147!

Peter, thanks for sharing your Substack analytics. I've done the same thing with several of my articles. It's interesting to see if the growth and subscriber trends for excellent authors like yourself have changed in recent months. (Mine have in an alarming manner).

I note your percentage of paid subscribers is just a little over 1 percent of your total subscribers. FWIW, Substack writes that authors can expect "five to 10 percent" of subscribers to become "paid." Per my analysis, this percentage is not accurate. Most veteran sites seem to have "2 to 5 percent" paid (or even less).

I wish you had 1,000 paid subscribers - which is the "magic number" that would allow independent writers to make a decent living from Substack.

I routinely read your articles and cross-posts and hope I can upgrade to paid status soon. Thank you very much for your excellent work!

Thank you for your kind words. My subscriber base ran up rapidly until September 2023 and have since flat lined. I put in a query to SubStack asking how I could check whether anyone who paid for a subscription was being credited to me, or to SubStack. I got a somewhat blank reply!

I keep hearing anecdotes like that. I was averaging 27 new paid subscribers/month for my first three months of my Substack (which I started two years ago). In the last six or seven months, I'm averaging three new paid subscribers a month. I don't think I've completely lost my Mojo as a Substack author ... but something seems to have changed.

Congratulations, Peter!

All that in just two years is very good going. Onwards!
