Grift, grift, and more international grift.

Even if there is a "micro-nova" (in 2045?), there is nothing we can do about it, at least for the majority of the citizens of the planet. Oh, so that's why they are trying to get rid of us now!

Very clear, very concise, very bullshit.

Net zero is an ascientific and unscientific litany of nonsense with the goal of eliminating direct and indirect anthropogenic influences on atmospheric composition and land usage. (See UNFCC et al. definition of "climate change" and its counter-point, "climate variability").

Note that this definition is unfalsifiable UNLESS humanity is expunged from the face of Gaia.

Therein lies the rub.

Reading #1 for anyone interested in the subject, thank you.

“Net zero” is impossible if we still believe in Newton’s three rules for life. There’s no need to go deeper.

Still, if the above is not enough… it is also impossible if we still believe in the basics of biology from primary school. For those decision makers who may not remember when it was - please, check a simple drawing in https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Photosynthesis

There’s no need to go deeper.

Still, if that is not enough, either… why are we using a completely unsustainable, environmentally hazardous, barely recyclable HVAC units all over the world? The same HVAC units that deregulate natural mechanisms of the body and create pockets of disturbed microclimate that pulsate in random cycles whenever we feel the urge to press the button on and off? From the sheer number of these microenvironments, it is impossible to calculate and account for their energy balance and its impact on the total energy emitted from the Earth surface.

From 2012!

I recall reading a lot of ZH (joined in 2009) back then and PJ Media.

It is baffling how the other sides that turning everyone into an insect colony is a good thing. Sure we don't want to rape, pillage and plunder - s o our own doorstep - but we can make rules for that and plans to restore the land, sea and air.

Well in the end it is all about Finance capital mispricing risk. https://wallstreetonparade.com/2023/12/three-wall-street-mega-banks-hold-157-3-trillion-in-derivatives-thats-56-7-trillion-more-than-the-entire-worlds-gdp-last-year/

And the Federal state of course wants to help. The Biden administration announced an initiative Thursday to track the “economic role and value” of nature in the U.S., claiming that current economic indicators do not accurately track the impact of the “natural world” on the U.S. economy.

The “National Strategy to Develop Statistics for Environmental-Economic Decisions” was announced as a joint initiative between the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, the Office of Management and Budget and the U.S. Department of Commerce (DOC), and represented the work of “27 Federal departments, agencies and offices” to “account for natural assets.” The initiative notes that the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) — a measure of the overall economic output of the U.S. — and other economic statistics were developed when “nature’s ability to provide seemed limitless,” and that an accurate accounting of natural resources is necessary.

“The fact that nature provides people with services now and opportunities in the future is why economists refer to nature as a form of capital,” The White House report reads. “This natural capital supports economic prosperity in similar ways to the financial capital that is traded on Wall Street or the buildings and machines that make up the physical capital on Main Street.”

I can understand the value of infrastructure and a rational replenishment of depreciation of those assets.

I cannot understand how you can value nature. for example, bees are extremely valuable and they are dying off (windmills and solar panels?) - do these need to increase in "price" in a model that values nature? How about recovery of desert? dish and lobster stocks that can grdouble in a few years? is that previously valued at zero and is now positive? proper arboreal measures or fire risks? minerls not yer discovered at miles below the surface? demand for new resurces that happen not to have been "valued" before?

Incidentally, i think the value of derivatives passed a quadrillion te nyears ago - probably twice that by now. what is more important is the ability of counterparties to make good their losses - i think the net derivative UNMARGINED exposure is unlikely to be more and a few tens of billions. derivatives exchanges and ISDA's are pretty tight on that sort of thing. - though of course, persistent margin calls of large chunks should be advised to everyoe - starting with the management of the institutin!

Yes I recall this exposure. Big 3 and many others.

If they got net zero there'd be no humans left let alone plants and wildlife.
